Oh Christmas Stump!

I've always had a preference for real trees, but this year I came across this and really wanted to try it. The artificial tree I found easily and cheaply enough on Craigslist, and I got lucky with the stump by just driving around the neighborhood looking for one. It even already had a hole in the middle I was able to fit the tree into.

New Work

I won't mention to what exactly some have likened the appearance of this particular watercolor, but I will say that was not my intention, that's just how it happens to look. It's name is what sold me, "shameless stinkhorn(!)." Obviously I had to take advantage of that. I swear, I'm finding that mushrooms have some of the funniest names.

Another seahorse softy, in a slightly different design from the first.

And, a purse, made using a variation of the "Pleated Beauty Handbag" pattern in Amy Karol's first book.

Market Update: The past two Saturdays at the farmers market have been great, however neither Belle and Burger nor myself will be making an appearance there this weekend (December 11th). We should both be back the following Saturday, the 18th of December. Hope to see you local folks there!

My Card

With some much appreciated help, I got these made just in the nick of time for last Saturday's sale. I kind of threw this design together not really knowing what exactly I wanted (you may recognize the morel from here) but I really love how they turned out.

And they double as hang tags (a stroke of Belle & Burger genius that I was happy to emulate!). Or maybe they are hang tags that double as cards...? Whichever!

This Saturday, and most of the following Saturdays between now and Christmas, the afore-mentioned B & B and I will be teaming up again, this time at the Barton Creek Farmers Market, where we'll have a shared booth. So get those peepers open before noon and come on down!

Shameless Self-Promotion

I am excited to announce that Belle & Burger and I are joining forces for a fabulous handmade goods sale next Saturday! We'll be offering all sorts of handmade goodness, which you can preview by following our blogs between now and then (which I guess means I'm officially off hiatus mode). I can tell you right now that the hedgehog will be there, as well as a fresh batch of acorn magnets and ornaments!

Boo!

Martha Stewart inspired jack-o'-lanterns.

Meringue bones (Martha again). I didn't have the called for pastry tip to pipe these out with, but had a smaller one, so I made a bunch of mini bones and used them to decorate this cake (which, incidentally, is a perfect chocolate cake. I can't imagine ever bothering with another chocolate cake recipe again. It's that good!)

Cheshire Cat (who later grew some whiskers during a nap, the only possible time I could get away with drawing on her face).

Plus Mad Hatter and Queen of Hearts.

I love my tiny crown. I don't love the fly swatter back there in the background. Gross.

Okay, back to hiatus mode!

Hedgehog + Hiatus

Here's a funny little hedgehog I just made using this free pattern. His snout seems to look especially long in the photo! On second thought, I think it really is that funny-looking.

Unrelated, I've decided to take a little break from blogging for a spell. I imagine it won't last more than a month or so, and I might stop in during that time to atleast share a Halloween photo or two (costumes are still being worked on, but looking good so far!). I just have a few things (artsy-craftsy) in the works that need my attention, plus want to have lots more, so am trying to really buckle down and make use of my free time to that end.

This Moment (XVIII)

This week's "moment", inspired by Soule Mama. In her words,
"{this moment} - A Friday ritual. A single photo - no words - capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember."

*Okay, so I cheated a tad here...I think this was a little more than a week ago. Somehow this week flew by almost entirely un-photo-documented.

Monday Morel

Turns out, too late, that I'm not so keen on the border. I think I'd like this better with no border and just a spacious background of the faint blue-green. I may still add a name, to properly label my specimen. Somewhere I have a little drawing my mom drew of a morel when she was about my age, maybe a little younger. I will post it if I ever find it. I'm anticipating more mushrooms will be coming soon.

A Rad(ish) Bag

I went to a fun little applique/tote-making class last Sunday, and here is the resulting bag.

The hand embroidery on the applique was actually not part of the plan, but my sewing machine was acting up at that point (turns out it was probably my fault), so I just started stitching by hand instead, with embroidery thread. My mom actually did the blanket stitch around the radish, as I needed a little instruction with that particular stitch. Everything came together pretty well—I'm so glad I now know how to do a lined tote (thanks Belle)!
