Donut Squares

I don't usually go for boxed mixes, but this one caught my eye the other day and I couldn't resist.

All you have to add is water, so these were super simple to make. Then you roll out the dough and cut it into squares.

Then fry the squares in oil. I don't remember what kind the recipe calls for, but we used coconut oil and quite a bit less than the recommended amount, which worked fine.

And, finally, top with powdered sugar. The dough itself was not as sweet as I expected, so I really doused them. I also added cinnamon.

They came out pretty tasty, but I'd like to try my own recipe. My mom ate some and, assuming they were made from scratch, unwittingly declared them "way better than those ones we had in New Orleans" (at Cafe Du Monde). Ha!
