This Moment (XI)

This week's "moment", inspired by Soule Mama. In her words,
"{this moment} - A Friday ritual. A single photo - no words - capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember."

This Week, I'm Loving...

Babushkups nesting glasses and Food Face plate (play with your food!).

(Above images borrowed from here and here)

Also, these great big floor puzzles. Neat! I think my favorites are "Goodnight Moon" and "Where the Wild Things Are."

And, old-Fashioned photo booths.

Zoë was in the funniest daze when we took these photos, trying to figure out what on earth we were doing.

Oh! I almost forgot, one more thing. I found this via FaceBook—teeny tiny sculptures made from pencils! There are a couple more even more impressive ones here. Much better link here.

Little Red Riding Hood

I made this one from a rayon/linen blend (the red fabric) and a lightweight cotton canvas, printed with probably the cutest ever depiction of Little Red Riding Hood.

I've realized that the pattern, which is still evolving but only ever-so-slightly at this point, can work two ways—either for a warm weather dress when worn alone, or a pinafore-type dress that serves as an outer layer in cooler weather. For the former, ideally I do think matching bloomers are in order, something I never got around to on any of my previous toddler dresses. But I had fall/winter more in mind for this particular dress anyway, so think it's just fine on its own.

Weekend Jaunt

Seeking shade and water, Sunday afternoon found us in Pease Park. There's an awesome water playground there, plus a regular playground, and enough scattered shade to find cover from the sun.

This was our first time taking Zoë to this park and I'm sure we'll be back again, hopefully next time with a picnic packed.

From Yoga Pants to Dapper Jumper

Before:

After!

Not only are they ridiculously cute (I really can't take credit, it belongs to Zoë), but they stay put now, too.

This Week, I'm Loving...

This is my third post of this type in as many weeks, and I think I will continue to keep this up on a weekly basis, and so am now calling these posts "This Week, I'm Loving..." (instead of "Right Now, I'm Loving..."). Just in case you were wondering. I am really liking these posts because they allow me to tie together a complete mish-mash of stuff in a somewhat cohesive manner. Anyway, without further ado, here are some of the things I'm loving this week...

Bill Maher, talking pharmaceuticals and health (clip is a bit dated, but new to me).

(Clip borrowed from YouTube)

And this related quote, which gives me a chuckle:
"Half of the modern drugs could well be thrown out of the window, except that the birds might eat them."
- Dr. Martin Henry Fischer

And, rain! Amen for a respite, however small, to the heat of another triple-digit day (atleast heat index-wise, if not actual temp-wise).

Stay tuned for a yoga pants transformation!

Cereal Box Marble Tomato Run

Shortly after mentioning this cereal box marble run the other day, I found myself with a near empty cereal box, a single marble, and a baby girl in serious need of some entertainment.

Turns out I couldn't locate the one marble we own, but small cherry tomatoes worked fine in a pinch.

Right Now, I'm Loving...

I'm thinking I should do these posts weekly because, well, there's just so much to love! Right now, topping the list is...
Vintage Repro(duction) Fabric

I found most of these last year at an old-fashioned general store in Vermont, but they're also easy to find online, with the help of that Googly thing.

Berries with Baby

New CocoRosie (a gift from Henry!)

Ochre Sea Star & Rockweed (Watercolor)

I am pretty happy with how this turned out, although I am stumped on a couple of final details. My first dilemma is whether or not to include the names of the starfish and seaweed, like you see in botanical illustrations. And, if I do add them, where to do it—inside or outside the circle? Which brings me to my next dilemma—should there even be an "outside the circle," or should I just trim the paper in a circle close around the painted area? Or, if I do leave the paper in a square as is, should I maybe paint it, too (I'm picturing very light aqua)? What to do about these options really depends on how I'd like it framed, and right now I just don't know. I'd really like the look of a circular frame, except I think it would look strange with the "frame" I already painted. So that's where square comes in, but I just don't know. I don't want to let go of the circle idea. Decisions, decisions! And oh-so-tedious ones, at that!

Ice Cream!

Ironically, neither Henry (Enrique) nor myself can really eat ice cream at the moment because we're both on a cleansing diet for the whole month of August. But some weeks ago, the ice cream maker was in heavy rotation. There was Mint Chip ice cream.

Twice.

Once was with fresh peppermint and dark chocolate, and the other, spearmint and milk chocolate. I enjoyed both thoroughly (Henry has a mint aversion). The mintyness was unlike anything I've ever tasted in ice cream before. It tasted just like fresh mint smells. After the mints, next came one Henry could enjoy—Double Vanilla Cinnamon Graham Cracker.

This flavor was inspired by one of Henry's Amy's Ice Cream favorites—Mexican Vanilla with cinnamon and graham crackers crushed in. I love, love, love how easy it is to just make up your own ice cream recipes. It is pretty difficult to get a bad outcome.

Right Now, I'm Loving...

Tomato products usually found in (plastic-lined) cans—in glass! (The "prop" tomatoes surrounding the jars were Henry's doing. That's what I'm calling Enrique now, "Henry." He hates it.) Another article on the plastic issue here. But be wary of reading the entire thing—the pervasiveness gets mighty scary.

This vintage-inspired Schwinn (maybe one day...).

(Photo yoinked from Schwinn's website)

A new art corner, just for me!

Complete with a growing stack of inspiration sources!

(Directive to self: Now get to work! Seriously. You are way too lazy lately.)
